I’ve seen a lot of candidates describe their work experience with words like “helped customers.” While it’s nice that the candidate has a great attitude, that description doesn’t help an employer understand what kind of skills they have and how they’ll jell well with their team.

Another problem is using titles like “Responsible for” or “Tasked with.” While these terms may sound professional, they’re not action-oriented and don’t tell a hiring manager what you’ve done in your previous roles.

Hiring managers have 10-30 seconds to decide whether they’re interested in your resume, so don’t give them a reason to eliminate you early. Review your resume and avoid these mistakes to ensure it stands out for all the right reasons.
