Police said they were told she was missing shortly before they put out a statement on the morning of Oct. 6. Privacy laws prevent Alberta Health Services (AHS) from disclosing why she was at the hospital or if she was a patient when she was last seen at the building. They also could not speculate on what her current medical condition may be. However, police were worried for her safety.

The woman is the third person this week to be reported missing after they were last seen at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre. Two other women who went missing on Sunday were located by police earlier this week. They are safe.

Patients are free to leave hospitals unless they are certified under the mental health act.

When a patient leaves a hospital before they are properly discharged, staff page the individual to return and begin a search of the building and premises. When it becomes clear they have left the hospital, emergency contacts are reached, and all staff and police are contacted.

Anyone with information about any missing people or criminal activity is asked to contact Wood Buffalo RCMP at 780-788-4040 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). Tips to Crime Stoppers are always anonymous and can be sent to tipsubmit.com.
